I get email. I get a lot of email. Some of which can be beneficial to a larger audience so I had the idea to create a simple, informal video series to answer those questions on a regular basis. Check out the video above to view today’s topic.

I love this new series! This was particular one was good for me as I am still relatively new to woodworking and, like you, keep changing things but have yet to come across a good layout. I have a small 2 story shed in my back yard with the top level being general family storage and half of the main level being yard/garden tools, leaving me with only half of the remaining space. It is about 10′ x 15′ so it’s been a struggle. Anyways, I digress. Thank you again for all of your great advice!
I have mobile bases on everything in my shop, so when it is not in use, it can be moved out of the way. The only exceptions to this are my storage areas, miter saw station, and a static table for bench top tools.
I have to disagree a bit on the need for internal closed in rooms. I have a large room behind my miter saw station where the electrical panel, large air compressor, and my dust collector are all housed. This to me is a necessity, as it helps control the noisiest equipment, in a dampened sound environment. It also gives me a large overhead storage area, for things that need to be saved, but seldom accessed. Of course I have 12 foot ceilings, so I have overhead storage everywhere except where the doors to the outside are.
Much like both of you, my assembly table is the main focus of my shop, but it too is on casters, as many times I nee to move it around to access things like my lathe. However, I think I would add dust collection and air cleaning to the priority list. A messy shop is a dangerous shop, so anything that helps keep the shop clean is at the top of my own list.
I plan to make a shop tour video soon, but right now, I have way to many projects going on to get it done. Great video, and I hope both of you continue working together. You make a good team.

My first shop furniture was The Jay Bate’s Single Sheet Shop Table. Then I built two more. Then I used the SketchUp knowledge I gained from watching your YouTube videos to design and build my own 4×8 assembly table with multiple storage cabinets.
