Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #190 – October 14, 2017

Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

CNC technology is continuously expanding and improving. The real winners of this expansion are the end consumers. Check out this mobile CNC machine. It works by riding in top of the work material rather than bringing the work material to the CNC machine. Click the image for more information.

I’ve been subscribed to this channel for years. He’s got a lot of great information in regards to different wood species and identifying and solving problems with trees. Be sure to surf his channel for previous content. Lots to learn…

There are a lot of tools and equipment that is just beyond the scope of hobby woodworking. I’m mainly talking about the large, robust, and technologically advanced equipment found in industrial settings. I think this particular dust collector is outside the scope of the “average Joe” woodworker but it’s nice to get a glimpse at other technologies.

$300,000 on a speaker setup is insane. But it plays to the saying that “something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.” Kudos to this guy for creating a product and finding an audience to buy it.

Living where you want and doing what you want. The outcome is completely based upon the effort you put into the lifestyle. Beach one day, mountains the next. This is the perfect bachelor life in my opinion. I’m so attracted to the lifestyle of living life on the road, seeing more of the world, and living life to the fullest… while at the same time enjoying the stability and security of my “grown up” life :)

While I have no direct or immediate need to build a tool chest I really want to build one. I’d honestly only use it once or twice a year to travel with tools

This is definitely worth buying a cheap, used grinder if you can find one. Heck, a new Harbor Freight grinder would be inexpensive enough.

“How do you find good boards at the box store?” is a verrrrrrrry common question I see in my email inbox and all over YouTube in the comment section of woodworking videos. If you’re one of the people wondering the same thing please read this article by Christopher Schwarz. (click the image)

Peter McKinnon

Not woodworking but such a great short film by Peter McKinnon. Don’t take life for granted folks!

Car and Driver Magazine

Not woodworking but very interesting from a mechanical mind aspect. The technology and amount of behind the scenes work of these cars is incredible.

I always enjoy this post … our minds need to continually expand to new horizons (some things are actually made with steel – imagine that!).
I also enjoy your attitude. Life is good whether we are living it in the excitement of fulfilling our dream or the humdrum of where we wound up one day and found our niche in life. Keep up the good work! I have followed your growth as a craftsman for years and you are making amazing progress. I really regret my health kept me from meeting you in Skiatook this past year. I live in Wagoner but I am pretty limited with regard to travel and standing/walking. I can tell though that you all had a grand time and hope something of this type becomes wide spread in the “makers” of this world.

  3. Two very interesting machines that you have provided us to ponder – Goliath CNC and Harvey Dust processor. Both are new takes on existing technologies.
Hopefully Harvey will make a more modest one for woodworkers as the design is a breakthrough away the traditional dust collection systems, which to me have many shortcomings. Hopefully too a 220-240v variant will be made.
    Thanks for making us interested.
…and Louis is always good value.

  4. Hi jAY.
