Blanket Chest #3 – Nichole

Blanket Chest Nichole

This is my third chest to build. It is a wedding present for my sister. I went with the same design as my last chest as it was just easy to build. I do not have a band saw anymore and did not want to arch the base with a jigsaw so I decided to leave it solid and add casters to the bottom. This one has a few more knots in it. With the fake floating panel design I could get away with using the deeper knots. In a few places the knots have splits that are pretty deep. I think it adds character. This is also the first project that I sprayed a the topcoat on. It is two coats of thinned Amber Shellac and a Polycrylic topcoat. I am very satisfied with the way the finish turned out. Total cost is around $80 using cheap lumber.
