Mattress to Cutting Board

Poplar Cutting Board

Treasures are hidden everywhere. Sofas, mattress frames, and headboards all have nice looking hardwoods. What started out as a box mattress is now this cutting board. Not much to say so I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. I also recorded the entire process in the four videos below.Poplar Cutting Board Poplar Cutting Board Poplar Cutting Board Poplar Cutting Board Poplar Cutting Board Poplar Cutting Board

  1. I see how you got a wet spot on your carpet pad. It’s the mineral oil soaking through the paper towel. Just sayin’…..

  2. This is a great article. I’m all for re-purposing things and and sending as little as possible to take up room in landfills. I have a question though. I wonder how safe it is to take something like this and create something that is meant to have contact with food. How do you know that wood from mattresses or other furniture wasn’t treated with possibly toxic fire retardants? I’ve also noticed that many people who write articles about reusing pallets for projects never mention how to check to see if the pallets they are using are safe. Many pallets used for international shipping are treated with pesticides, which would make them not suitable for many projects. Pallets are supposed to have markings for that, but I don’t know about furniture.
