Vlog: New Camera, New Shop

Most of you probably do not know of my second YouTube channel (subscribe!). That’s because I really haven’t done anything on it in a while. Now that busy season at work is starting to dwindle down I’m going to make a conscious effort to make more of these “vlog” style videos. Just a collection of recent thoughts, questions, and answers. The vlog format is definitely not for every one but a lot of people do enjoy them. This is the first video to test out my new GoPro camera. I’m also showing the new shop.

  1. Hey jay, make a Mobil clamp cart, norm style, I use one and it is so much easier while on assembley in a larger room like yours, you have a great luxury of space! Hope this helps, would be a cool video as well!

  2. Jay i was going to suggest the same as Ben a mobile clamp cart seems like it would work for you quite well due to all the room you have

  3. Nice video Jay. I wish l had as much SPACE as you do! I’m experiencing space envy at the moment…one day maybe. The GoPro is an awesome camera. My teenage son has one for his surfing videos and they turn out great. Cheers mate

  4. Hi Jay. How are you liking the gopro? The video quality seems good. Is it fairly simple to use? I have been considering purchasing one, just waiting for them to go on sale.
All the best and keep up the great work

    • Hey Garry. The camera only has two buttons so navigating the menus takes a little time to get used to. But I suppose that’s the case with any new device. You can also use an app on your phone to completely control the camera. I’m quite pleased with it. The quality is great.

  5. So Jay have you done anything to the inside of the house? LOL Looking good. I’m happy for you. Keep the videos coming….

  6. Jay, I wanted to give you some constructive criticism on the new GoPro. The resolution is great, but I really don’t like the “jumpiness” that it has. I think this type of camera is a great thing for action shots where you could never take a camera before. It gives you a perspective that we’ve never seen before and is great for sports, etc. If you want to add unique perspectives to your videos, then this is the way to go. But, I have to be honest, I was getting a headache trying to focus on the items around you while you were walking around the shop. Use your ‘old’ camera for the standard shots that you’ve always done. They were good enough as they were. Maybe an occasional action perspective from the GoPro can add a little something to overall video. I want to be able to see the details of what you’re doing most of the time. Just my 2 cents. Keep up the great work that you do. I intend to use more of your shop projects in my own set up.

    • Hey Tom. Thanks for the feedback. The jumpiness is from my unsteady hand and not the camera. A cheap steady-cam holder for the camera would solve that I mainly just recorded it to test out the video quality. Thanks for watching!

  7. Hey Jay, love your projects and videos. I am a brand new woodworker and everything you put out is very user simplified. Checkout Steve Ramsey’s page woodworking for MereMortals he made a pretty neat clamp rack for his shop. How do I get started in scetch up or should I just doodle down on paper? Thanks for everything you do.

    • Hey Amos. I’ve seen Steve’s setup and it works pretty well. I’ll probably just hang them back on the wall like I had them. Thanks for the kind words and I’m glad you enjoy my content. Have a good day.

  8. You do have a nice size wood working shop but I do agree with you on French cleating everything you can up on the wall. It just makes good sense to keep managing a good spacious floor area by putting things up on the wall where you can readily and just take it down as you need it.see it’s nice to keep shop equipment out of your way until you need it to work your magic. Very nice Jay.
