  1. Hi, Jay. Generally, the softer the wood, the darker the stain results. So, with common 2x4s, you should probably pick a stain expecting it to soak up more stain than with harder wood. Looks good as is, though, IMO.

  2. If you have any extra jigsaws laying around, I would be more than happy to give them a new home! It looks like you need to make another drill charging station/cordless tool storage rack as well.

  3. Hi Jay,
I don’t want to sound like Capt. obvious here but, you did check the battery in the remote right?? I know it sounds strange but I had something similar happen to me. I had my remote on the workbench and I accidentally put something on it, pressing the switch down for a couple of days. When I got back into the shop, the battery was dead Those coin cells don’t really last that well.

    • You were right. The light still comes on in the remote with the original battery. Put a new one in and it works again. That’s really odd. I would think that if the light came on then it would have enough power to transmit a signal. Thanks for the captain obvious reminder :)

      • Had the same issue with my garage door one time, light came on…worked sometimes. Replaced the battery and now it works at a feathers touch. Mind blown.

  4. Instead of a remote I put a switch on the receptacle the dust collector is plugged in to near my table saw. My basement shop has a 7’8″ unfinished ceiling so that it was simple to run the wiring and put the switch on the ceiling. Not as easy with your high ceilings, but something to consider.

  5. Jay,

Terrific information! Well presented, right on track for my interests.
New shop looks like I hope mine will……….someday.
Do you have any info on a jig I’m looking for. I want to use a jig on my table saw to make 45 deg cuts without tilting the blade. Searched the net, your site specifically, but didn’t find anything that looked as though it would do the job.
    Keep up the great work!
    Jerry
