Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #68 – February 21, 2015

Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

Anyone interested in making your own shellac finish? I used to use amber shellac a lot but that look got old quick to me. I wonder how garnet shellac would look on pine? Click the image for a nice overview on how to mix your own. Also, while you’re there check out the rest of his content.

Mario Cappellano

This is a super simple box joint jig. I’m probably going to be making one within the next couple days.

Bellevue Woodshop

I’m always amazed at this guys homemade machines.

Matthias Burger

The way Mattias illustrates his videos as they go is great. Check it out as he rebuilds the timber structure in his house.

Canadian Woodworks

Paul creates some AMAZING pieces. He owns a custom furniture shop in Ontario and also has a chair class to build your very own chair if you are interested. He recently made a really badass computer desk. I love the big, bold design of it and the customer who ended up getting it did a great job of utilizing the space it now calls home.

I have a sudden urge to consume a lot of milk…

Andrew Klein

The amount of work that went into this table is INSANE!! But the end result is soo worth it. This is a quick recap of the completed table. If you are interested in watching the build videos for it he has a clickable link at the end of this video or you can click over to his channel and watch them from there.

Drunken Woodworker

For anyone who makes a lot of picture frames this looks like a great jig to have.

Rinse, Reuse, Recycle :)

Wranglerstar

I understand that not everyone is into any daily vlog channels but this is one I like to watch. Cody and his family are creating daily videos on modern homesteading. This is part 8 of a tree house he’s making. He’s got a ton of videos with great learned lessons, old tools, timber framing, and general homestead stuff. Definitely a channel I’ll recommend.

  1. Great recommendations. I especially enjoy Wranglerstar. I’ve followed him on YouTube longer than anyone else I follow. He really inspires me the most to work with my hands and has an awesome work ethic that we should all seek to emulate.

  2. Dude!! This was one of my favorite “Interesting Stuff…” episodes.
That single blade box joint jig looks pretty cool.
    Love the treehouse too.

  3. That box joint jig is great, I have recently been trying to figure out/find an easy way to make box joints on my table saw that will not accept a dado stack. Now I have my solution.

Incidentally, I wanted to thank you and all the other content creators that inspired me to quit the job I hated and enroll in a college cabinet making/ architectural woodworking program.
