Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #104 – November 07, 2015

Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

Last week I made a video on jointing stock wider than your jointer and mentioned that if you don’t have a jointer you can still joint stock with a planer sled through your planer. Here’s a good example of that. (click the image)

Hopefully I’ll be able to build a solid workbench this winter. Nothing fancy but plenty strong. Probably a lot like this one but not a split top. There’s a long detailed build process for this one. (click the image)

This is a rather interesting table saw sled…

Jer’s Woodshop

Holy moly that’s a lot of drawers. I like how interchangeable they are too.

Earl Davidson

Earl has been making woodworking videos for only a couple of months and I’ve found a lot of great ideas from his videos so far. Be sure to subscribe to his channel and check out the rest of his content. Here’s a great idea for a camera boom.

Here’s another good one from Earl. Quite a few good ideas here.

FastEasySmartTOOL

This dude is pretty smart. Check out this perfect radius template.

GardenFork

A boat out of one sheet of plywood. Sounds like a fun project if you have a pond nearby.

GarageWoodworks

The final part of the Edison lamp. Man I really like the way this lamp turned out.

Sandra Powell aka {Sawdust Girl}

Sandra’s main focus is working on her house but right now she’s in the process of organizing her shop. Here’s a good way to get some organization with the dozens (hundreds?) of driver bits that we all have.

Scott Rumschlag

I’ve often wondered how well a homemade counterweight lift top desk would work but I really doubt my version would be anything as nice as this. Great, simple engineering.

Chop With Chris

Chris explains a few tips on how to get some old hand tools for pretty cheap.

Timothy Wilmots

The sliding table saw drew me in but the project quality kept me watching. This is a really nice shop cabinet.

  3. Jay,

I like that work bench build. Why do you not like the split top? I am getting ready to design and build a new work bench and I am torn about whether to do the split top. I like the idea of having it for clamping and tool storage, but I am concerned it would get cluttered. I would love to read your thoughts and concerns as I am an admirer of your work and designs.
