Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.
phloemstudio.com
Benjamin Klebba started Phloem Studio in 2009. If I had one word to describe his projects I would have to say they are all clean. Very, very clean. If you’ve got some time to kill click through this image and scroll through his blog posts. Beautiful work! (click the image)
Also, here’s an excelent video of Benjamin and one of his chairs. I could watch these videos all day.
jdn6863
An old video showing some super simple techniques that you can use in your shop.
frank howarth
If for some reason you haven’t heard of Frank Howarth do yourself a favor and click through to his YouTube channel and spend a day watching his videos. You’ll thank me later. Here’s his latest. He’s so great at communicating stories.
Kyle Toth
This dude not only has creative projects but his videos are creative as well. He’s also got a ton more patience than I do. Check out this desk!
Manny
Perspective….. Manny Avalos has a great perspective. Great message, great video.

The Passion of Making – Overgaard & Dyrman
I’m running out of superlatives for great videos and great craftsmanship. Great chair. I haven’t said that yet.
Rekiem skateboard how to make a board
This is a fun video from 5 years ago on making a skateboards.
Seattle Guitar Maker Brent McElroy
Guitar making looks incredibly challenging. Woodworking on a different precision level.
There is a certain level of precision needed to build a guitar, but if this old cabinet shop dude can do it, anyone who can take their time and focus on one step at a time can do it. I think you’d like guitar making, Jay, but fair warning – it’s addictive. It’s seriously addictive. No – I mean seriously addictive.
nice digs, Jay, I had not drifted over to Vimeo yet, but there is good stuff there too.
Thanks and keep on trucking !
What a brilliant choice of videos. I would even venture to say it was the most enjoyable Around the Web I have viewed. The messages that were spoken by some was of more value to me then all the content of the craft itself. Thank you Jay!
Glad to hear that Ray :)
It was great to see Frank make something decorative as his projects are mostly utilitarian.
Love the turning bell piece. Ever think of doing some turning yourself?
What a wonderful mix of craft and philosophy today! I am fascinated by it all!
thank you so much.
Really appreciated the Manny video. It is easy to make excuses to NOT get something done but Manny must not know that. I would love to hear more of his story. Thanks for including it.
I hate vimeo, but that chair video was unreal! Both the chair and the video production
What an amazing collection of findings this time around Jay. Like some of the other commenters, I truly enjoy hearing about their passion of the craft, what it means to them, what it could, and sometimes does, mean in and to the world. Very moving….thank you for sharing. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours.
