Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #112 – January 2, 2016

Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

This is just unreal. Someone carved a train, track, and tunnel into a carpenter’s pencil. Yeah, you heard that right. (click the image)

Woodworkingfourdummies.com

There are only two images and a paragraph to this one but it’s an awesome idea for a “man cave” or for any dedicated hockey fan. Super easy way to really make a statement.

Shop Built

I think I would have just made the top tray a sliding tray without the drawer slides but a simple, functional project regardless. I need to make one of these actually.

Marius Hornberger

Marius always makes some interesting projects. And does so in a really small shop. Here he puts a unique twist on an otherwise ordinary bowl.

Paul Jenkins

I always recommend putting high importance on organizing your shop. It makes a huge difference in workflow and overall enjoyment. Check out the beginning of Paul’s miter saw and drill press station.

hffcom

I recommend subscribing to this channel as you can watch just about any of his videos and pick up on a simple project production or efficiency trick. Here he shows how to make a simple jig for increasing speed when mortising table rails.

mirock’s woodshop

Simple but complex. Well thought out though.

A 420 square foot backyard cottage. Very well put together and on page two right after the last image is a small link to get a PDF guide for it. Not super in-depth but it has some good diagrams. (click the image)

Andrew Klein

Another interesting invention by Andrew Klein. This time a fast travel twin screw vise.

Jon Peters Art & Home

Jon always does quality work regardless of the size of the project. Check out his latest skateboard deck. He’s customized quite a few so search his channel if you are interested in seeing more.

frank howarth

Anyone into segmented turning? This jig might be of use to you.

Michael Olson

I’ve made quite a few projects with half lap joints and have always been impressed at how strong they are. They are super easy to cut as well. Michael used half laps to make a nice mobile shop cart.

mirock’s woodshop

I’m not sure how practical this would be for everyone but it sure does look like a great alternative to wearing an annoying shop apron or tool belt. I find those two to be annoying anyway.

Dustin Penner

Another secret compartment box. A very beautiful box as well.

FineWoodworking

I recently picked up a new plane and found this video to be pretty useful. Clear and precise instruction as well.

John Heisz

I love the way this video was shot. Not your typical shop video from YouTube. My most interesting video of this past week.

Victor V.

He demonstrates this sharpener by tuning up a pair of hair clippers but the concept is incredibly simple and can probably be adapted to a lot of other uses.
