Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #117 – February 13, 2016

Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

Power carving made easy and precise. This is definitely a jig to put on the to-do list.

Here’s another quick tip from Wood Magazine. A simple jig for securing sheet goods in a truck. (click the image for a description)

Fine Woodworking

Cutting dovetails on the table saw. I might have to give this a try.

Jon Peters Art & Home

Jon’s cabinet projects are always classy looking. Check out how he used some simple molding to really dress up this TV lift cabinet.

Wordsnwood (Art Mulder)

It doesn’t take much to make a cyclone separator. Here’s Art’s version.

Jeff Furr

I would have never though of making something like this. Finding an old toy or something from a childhood and making a display piece out of it is a great idea.

ibuildit.ca

I often get asked what I recommend for protecting cast iron and preventing rust. Here’s probably the best solution out there. The image I’m showing here is the before image. You should see the results after some testing. (click the image)

Hugibear’s Den

This is a quick and easy jig for the drill press that looks like it could come in handy. You could also use this concept to make a tapering jig for a planer.

Moy perez woodshop

A really nice looking homemade lathe. I like how well this turned out.

BALES

This is an interesting cookbook stand. Kudos for syncing the video clips to the music beat as well :)

FineWoodworking

I like the concept of this. I doubt I would ever implement it but it is thought-provoking.

intehwoodshop

The evolution of a 100 square foot microshop. It’s a great example of working in a small space.

Wood and Shop

The next three videos feature Frank Klausz. First is a brief shop tour of his very unique, but beautiful, shop. The second is a quick, pins first demonstration of hand cut dovetails by Frank. And the third is Frank showing his huge molding plane.

sdmcustom woodworking

I absolutely love the “melting” design on tables. Here’s a chessboard featuring it. Very, very cool.

GuysWoodshop

Guy is at it again. These are going to be great.

Modern Builds

I love the enthusiasm this guy has. Makes me want to run out to the shop and get working. The finished countertops look so good on this build.

Ana White

Ana White is in the process of building a tiny home. This looks like it will be a very fun project. Here’s episode 3:

NickFerry.com

Here’s a giveaway you might not know about. Everything needed to make a really nice table saw sled. (click the image)

Also on Nick’s website you can find out who Ty Moser is. Nick started a Meet The Maker series. The first one features our Ty Moser. (click the image)

  1. The doodad for securing sheet goods in a pickup bed appears to be from Wood Magazine’s “Tip of the Day”: http://tips.woodmagazine.com/2014/08/11/

Found it via Google image search, which is very handy: https://images.google.com/. Click on the camera icon, and then upload your image file.

Good “Interesting Stuff” this week. Lots of items and lots of variety is what I like for these things, because they’re food for thought. The linked-to stuff doesn’t even have to be particularly mind-blowing, although that doesn’t hurt.

  2. The Quick Tip came from ShopNotes or Woodsmith. I did a quick search online and didn’t find which issue, but it is their style of drawing they have used in their magazine for years. I also seem to remember seeing it there in some back issues.

    Great blog.

  3. Right out of the gate you blew my mind with the chair seat scooping on the table saw… WOW!
Then there is the volume of content you found. This is going to take me a while.

Oh, thanks for the tip on the Bessey F-style clamps from Home Depot, mine arrived yesterday.
