Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #119 – February 27, 2016

Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

This is a good example of thinking outside the box. Literally.

Dustin Penner

You definitely want to watch this one. I’ve shown a few of his previous secret compartment box videos but in this one he walks you through the process.

Scott’s Place

Speaking of secret compartments….. this is a great and super simple way to hide stuff in plain sight in the shop.

Guy’s Woodshop

Not only does Guy make high quality projects but he explains each one very well. In this video he makes the curved veneered front doors for his end tables.

Stone and Sons Workshop

I’ve never seen a round tenon cut this way before. Such a simple but useful tip!

Woodworkers Journal

I’m not sure how practical it would be to have a bunch of these PVC pieces around but it is a useful tip I haven’t seen on the topic.

A few months ago I started using a leather strop to polish my cutting tool edges. It’s a VERY quick way to maintain a VERY sharp edge on tools. I highly recommend everyone make one of these if possible. (click the image)

The cutting board king! Some nice detail on this one. I really like the results of his inlay process.

FastCap

Paul from FastCap shot a quick video briefly showing how a wine barrel is made. Check it out!

Glue and wait…glue and wait….glue and wait….glue and wait… I can’t imagine the amount of patience needed to glue up all of those pieces!! Tapering them on the drum sander was pretty neat and very simple as well.

Have you ever glued a board on the wrong side of your project? Yeah, I’ve been there too Frank! The final fit of this bar top is very nice.

This isn’t woodworking at all but rather a good message beyond the surface of the video. I often get asked for advice regarding doing certain woodworking tasks with limiting situations such as being wheel chair bound. Similarly to an individual pursuing their passion of woodworking regardless of their struggles or unique situations the driver of this rock bouncer is paralyzed and drives with all hand controls. His life situation may have knocked him down a bit but that didn’t stop him from doing what he want’s to do. This hill beat him up once but, again, that didn’t stop him. Don’t let your unique situation discourage or stop you from doing what you want to do.
