Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #121 – March 12, 2016

Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

frank howarth

I’d love to spend a day in Frank’s shop. What an amazing work space. His library of old power tools is incredible.

nilknarf007

This is a slightly modified version of my workbench. I’m sharing it because I really like what he did with an old face vise.

BeachBumLivin

Another great up-cycle build from Beach Bum Livin. This would also make a great wall decoration.

Having trouble with your hand plane? Here’s a great article on troubleshooting your plane. (click the image)

Rob Cosman

There’s a ton of great tips in this overview video from Rob. He’s showing a completed chest of drawers. Lots of stuff to put in the back of your mind.

izzy swan

These are so easy and look great. Have a rustic project coming up? Give these wood hinges a try.

Dustin Penner

Another great project from Dustin. I’m quite impressed with his use of tape to help keep things aligned as he builds. Sometimes the simple things are the most handy.

Matt Cremona

Just Matt doing what he does; Turning logs into projects. This time he’s showing how to rough turn a bowl on a lathe.

BALES

I’ve shown his shop recently but here’s more info on his camera track system.

Kyle Toth

A walnut, holly, and ebony vase turned by Mr. Toth. One day I’ll have a lathe…one day. Until then I’ll just admire these beautiful projects :)

Justin Depew

This shop is in an apartment! To reduce dust in the air he made a very well thought out dust collection hood. This is quite impressive.

Stumpy Nubs

I found this very interesting. I’ve previously read about this finishing technique for pine but never actually tried it. It’s nice to see a completed project to see how well it turned out.

Graham Haydon

Here’s a tool giveaway for all of you in the UK. Here’s a link to the video so you can enter in the comments section if you are interested: http://bit.ly/1Wgsm4B

  1. That Justin Depew is pretty clever! He came up with an effective dust collection system using some interesting ideas. I especially like the addition of the lid that moves with the saw as it is lowered. Necessity is often the mother of invention. Keep it up Justin :)…oh…and you too, Jay!

  2. Came back to watch the video by nilknarf007. The bench looks pretty good, the imperfections you pointed out are easily remedied. You built yourself a bench that should last a lifetime. When I finish creating my shop (gotta do something about the floor first) I plan on building a good bench and I was certainly considering Jay’s design. So it is nice to see another person’s build of it.
