Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #162 – February 04, 2017

Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

Patrick’s WorksShop

Patrick is doing a great job restoring an old Craftsman table saw. He’s also doing a great job documenting the process.

BearKat Wood

Beautiful chairs :)

Chris Salomone

A great narration for a great project.

treebangham

An interesting shop tour. He’s got more good content as well.

jimmydiresta

I think this is a great balance of wood and metal for a bed. The headboard really sets it off too.

Lynn Lacey

Another camera stand :) And an inexpensive DIY camera mount.

Shop built

A lot of people have the problem of not being able to make insert plates for contractor of hybrid saws. Check this out if you’re one of them.

Sean Rubino

Sean is a great dude. I met him in person last year and had a great conversation. Check out this beautiful oak and copper bench he made. Another great mix of materials.

Cactus Workshop

A DIY pocket hole jig.

SimpleCove

Another shop tour. This time with Sean from Simple Cove.

Vox

I couldn’t help but include this here. Not woodworking but….. it’s hard to say no to Mario content.

  1. Sean made a telling point about his table saw being unable to dispense saw dust and waste towards to extraction outlet at the back of the table. This is a common design fault of table saws and I don’t just mean basic table saws.

Why does it seem so impossible for table saw makers to design their table saws to give better dust and waste extraction? After all, there are many DIY people on YouTube who have come up with good and workable solutions.

All these table saw makers have to do is to have a look at YouTube, take the best design and modify their saws. It can’t be that difficult to get gravity working in a table saw compartment. It can’t be that difficult to design a table saw that is reasonably air tight to maximise the draw of the extraction system.

We are all looking to do a better job in reducing dust, except seemingly table saw manufacturers.

Jay – you have some pull – you should organise an online petition.

    • I agree, I have been working with my delta table saw to do just that. You would think these manufactures would see a selling point when it hits them in the face.
