Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #186 – August 26, 2017

Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

I met Shawn at the woodworking event in Skiatook Oklahoma. There’s a lot of good tips in this video.

BalvenieUS

You never know where a career will come from. This guy made a career from making beautiful knives simply because he learned how to sharpen knives while in college.

Walter Sorrells

I’ve got an old spokeshave that I want to restore and was going to make a video on it….until I saw this one. I’ll just restore mine off camera ;) There’s some good tips in this video though.

Trevor’s Workshop

Ever since the Oklahoma event I’ve been telling myself that I really need to make a tool box to transport my hand tools more safely. Here’s a simple tool box that looks incredible considering the origin of the lumber.

Exploring Alternatives

Could you live in a space like this? A weekend getaway I could probably do but I’m not that big of a snow fan. This is one of the best tent setups I’ve seen.

Josh Turner

The remainder of this article is not woodworking. First, probably the best cover of one of my favorite Johnny Cash songs Folsom Prison Blues. This is such a genuinely fun video. Just two dudes having a blast playing music.

I found this incredibly interesting. I had no clue that using a helicopter to dry cherries was even a thing. On one hand it makes a lot of sense. Just use a giant portable fan to blow air and knock the water off the cherries. On the other hand it seems like such overkill….a helicopter to knock water off a cherry. Interesting!

So naturally after seeing the above video I did some investigating and found this article on the helicopter and cherry topic. (click the image)

  1. Hi Jay,

Great article this week, these are some awesome vidoes.

A while back, you introduced me to Louis Sauzedde “Tips from a Shipwright” in a video where he was building a boat. I got hooked and have been watching him ever since.

If you haven’t been following him, he just started a new series. If you like his videos, it might help him out for you to give him another shout out, given your wider audience. I’m not affiliated with him, just a big fan.

  2. Thank you for featuring my Video! Been a fan for a long time and surprised my video popped up here. Regards
    Trevor
