Curly Maple and Padauk Dead Blow Mallets – Want one?

Hey everyone. I have a break in between longer projects so I thought it would be fun to knock out a few mallets (no pun intended). The process is pretty straight forward and very similar to my last mallet video so I’m not going to get in depth with this article. If you want a detailed explanation of how I make mallets you can check out that article. The only difference is that I used a forstner bit to make a recess for metal bbs.

I decided to make a set primarily to have one to give away this Saturday at City Hardwoods in Birmingham, Alabama. Because it’s mostly setup time to make these I thought it would be a good idea to make a few more to give away as gifts online.

If you would like one of these simply sign up for my email newsletter below. If you’re already getting my email newsletter you still need to enter below to let me know you are interested in winning one of these. You won’t get duplicate emails. Anyone is allowed to enter.

EDIT: Entry time has passed.

To randomly pick a winner I downloaded the entries and opened them in a spreadsheet. Each entry is on it’s own line. I used random.org to generate two winning numbers and those two rows are the winners. Emails have already been sent to the winners. Congrats!

  1. Beautiful. I’m presently enjoying the contrast of dissimilar timbers particularly post lacquering. I made a trinket box, inspired by one of your videos, using American White Ash for the body and Kwila for the accents. HUGE difference from natural to lacquered.

  2. Lovely materials and nice build, but the design is about as elegant as a cinder block on a stick. Unlike most of your work this does not appeal to me at all.
    Otherwise I enjoy your work.
