Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #200 – January 27, 2018

Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

Ollari’s

These simple crates are popping up at homecenters around me for what I would consider a crazy price. Make your own instead. A simple project that is actually really handy around the house. Store a couple in the back of your vehicle for bringing in groceries…

My Self Relianace

I’ve been following the progress of this build for a while now. I can only imagine how many calories were sacrificed during this build. This is the definition of hard work, doing what YOU want to do in life, and determination. “What did you build in 2017?” “Oh a few pieces of furniture, you?” “A cabin in the woods.”

Family Table Furniture

The table base created here is really interesting. It’s definitely an attention grabber. Great video as well, although I don’t recommend using the table saw freehand…

Berkeley Mills

Here’s a look at a well equipped shop in California. Tremendous quality work as well. Check out the different mortise machines they use. Great craftsmanship at scale.

Another one from the same company on a gorgeous table. I’ve always wondered how inlay will hold up long-term when placed across the grain like they do in this table….

Dan Prudlow

Necessity is the mother of invention. This is a good way to catch dust at the source. I did something similar to a hand-held belt sander a few years back. If you have one of these I highly recommend doing what Dan did. It makes the tool a lot more pleasant to use in my opinion.

The Home Inspector

Ouch! Have you ever heard someone say “If you want something done right you better do it yourself”? I know not all projects can be taken on by yourself but here’s a great example of being inconvenienced by someone else’s poor work. Be smart out there!

Bobby Duke Arts

Just to warn you, this guy is definitely a character. But if that bothers you just try to look past it and see what he’s actually doing. In this one he makes a beautiful carving in a rock.

Here’s another great work of art from Bobby. A pencil in a pencil in a pencil.

  1. That Bobby Duke guy is hilarious! I watched the first one you linked us to, watched 3 more, then subscribed! Thanks Jay. That one made my day!

  2. Jay, Doesn’t that Berkeley Mills style of cutting mortise and tenon remind you of Matthias Wandel’s Pantorouter?
I’ve always been intrigued by Matthais’s Pantorouter and wish I could afford one of the new metal ones! Maybe “someday” I might try and build a wood one from his plans! It sure would have been a great help to me when I built our new walnut dinning room table. Oh well, Dream on Mac – Dream on.
