Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #214 – August 18, 2018

Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

Russ Veinot

This video shows the benefit of mounting a laser to your bandsaw to help account for and virtually eliminate drift. I’m not sure what I like more though, the laser guide or the miter gauge fence combo…. He said in the video description that the laser he is using is item #93242 at Harbor Freight.

SJE Woodworks

Ever wonder what to do with those leftover wood curls lying on the ground after planing? This is a creative way to reuse those fire starters and score points with that special person in your life.

The Every Maker – Nick

This is a great Pirate’s Treasure Chest (Ring Box) build video on a small scale with big applications. Looking for some inspiration, there is plenty of it in this one. Excellent story telling and a really convenient way to oxidize brass. I love every aspect of this build.

Jeff Baker

There are a lot of different options out there for staining wood. If you have never considered using wood dye, Jeff Baker shows a practical application of the use of wood dye in this video with fantastic results. Two layers of color to give a lot more depth.

Harrykatt20

A nice well described project from Harry using various easy techniques to make this small Gypsy caravan. This would be a fun project to get the kids involved. Great work Harry.

Peter Brown

A little throwback from Peter Brown. Here Peter shows how to recycle an old milk jugs made of HDPE. No special woodworking techniques, just a way to reuse something that is already there and you don’t have to purchase expensive stock.

Wood By Wright

Great practical advise from James. He suggest making the tools you need for your first project out of any old scrap wood. This develops skills you will use later on in the actual project.

Woodworking Barcelona

Yet another way to repurpose HDPE bottles. All of that cutting definitely paid off in the final look of the mallet. Very unique look and probably a conversation starter for anyone who sees it in the shop.
