Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #217 – September 8, 2018

Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

krtwood

Here is a wooden musical instrument leaving strings behind and solely relying on vibrations. I really like the dust collection shroud idea for power carving in the shop. Kevin has a very organic and flowing style to his projects that I like.

Ronald Walters

If you ever have been indecisive, fret no longer. If you look closely this Gear Head gadget will give you an answer. With as much time as it takes to look at everything going on with this one I can’t imagine how much time it took to make. Especially considering Ronald uses a scroll saw to cut the gears. Incredible patience

bigchewypretzels

This woodworker’s proposal is unlike anything else. This book shows much attention to all the little things that matter. Guys, you have to step it up after watching this one. OR, just make sure she doesn’t see this video…

A wood pool :) well, kinda. It looks 10 times better than any composite side above ground pool though. I dig it.

Multifunctional Sawhorses DIY

Lots of clamping options and maybe enough to justify building these instead of a workbench for some people….maybe?

Fisher’s Shop

These cutting boards are a creative dimension of the 3rd kind. If you are looking for a new way to spice up your cutting board projects then check out this video. There’s so many different 3d designs out there but the one requirement for all of them is patience. Another project with a lot of patience. Seems to be a reoccurring theme with woodworking….

YouCanMakeThisToo

If you ever find yourself needing to join two slabs to make one large table, Caleb Harris from YouCanMakeThisToo shows us his technique to join on a curve rather than a straight line to help keep the attention on your finished project rather than your glue joint.

Mitch Peacock – WOmadeOD

Why buy hinges when you can make your own out of wood AND incorporate them into your project? Well there’s a few reasons why you wouldn’t want to do this for every project but for that special project that needs an extra touch you could use this method. Mitch Peacock demonstrates how to hand cut a (180 degree) Knuckle Joint in this quick video.

Duke Video

Wait for it around the halfway point of the video. This last video is completely random, interesting in the regards of physics and low center of gravity, and also incredibly over my pay grade. I had no idea this type of racing existed.

  1. Now that sawhorse is one I can use, even with my bench. I’m a tall guy, so my bench is 38″, but every now and then I’d like to get “above” something a little more, a par of these at 30″ would be just the thing and they’d take up less space than an entire second bench. And they are MUCH more portable than my bench … MUCH more.

  2. Used to go to motorcycle sidecar races at Hockenheimring when I was stationed at Ramstein Air Base in 1968-70. Pretty amazing stuff. Also love your YouTube channel. Have been a subscriber for a couple of years.

  3. Excellent content thanks Jay, I have been a subscriber for a year or two.
Regarding the sidecar video, tragically Ian Bell, one of the riders featured, was killed a year or so ago at the isle of man TT races, he was from my area in North East England – very much like yourself, he did what he loved doing (well you appear to)
I thoroughly enjoy your content, please keep it up –
