Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #223 – November 10, 2018

Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

Jeff Baker

This father/daughter project is a fun idea to get the kids involved with woodworking. It’s a Halloween decoration but the concept can obviously be used year round. I can’t wait to make shop projects with my daughter :) Great job Jeff & Hayley.

Mitch Peacock – WOmadeOD

This quick tip video from Mitch Peacock might be just what you need to get the surface you’re looking for on exotic hardwoods. Do you have a toothed plane blade?

Carl Jacobson

There’s more to this spooky looking spell book than meets the eye. Famous for his spectacular woodturning, Carl Jacobson shows in this video he has imagination and creativity beyond the lathe. A couple interesting techniques and methods in this one. It was interesting seeing the power chisel create the outside texture. Very creative project.

Pask Makes

Pask Makes’ Scrapwood Challenge is a great series full of creative ideas. This industrial light is a great application for materials that many people throw away or burn. And just like the top comment on the video…I can’t help but think of bacon.

woodturningwithtim1

With the holidays quickly approaching, this 2 part video featuring a laser cut Christmas ornament kit is a unique idea to add holiday cheer to the tree, and as Tim mentions, if you’re waiting for December, you’re already behind.

The King of Random

Many of us have probably seen a version of the “stealth shelf.” However the hidden locking mechanism in this one has some great practical applications and adds a unique feature to this multi-functional decorum. Although, there is no regard to wood expansion and contraction so take that into consideration.

Woodsmith

This is a two part video. This jig is compact and quite versatile. I believe this would be handy in making those fine miter cuts on small molding or pieces that you wouldn’t want to make on a miter saw. Also, the shop/set this was shot in looks so inviting :) Clean and tidy.

Inspire Woodcraft

Another jig for circles on the bandsaw! Look, no center hole required. Probably the “best” circle jig I’ve found. Best is completely subjective here.

The Pohl Barn Projects

There’s not much instruction here but you can watch what he did for the technique. Epoxy has become one of the most used accent materials in modern woodworking. Is it the next polarizing item like the CNC was? Beautiful bowl to accent a dining table as a centerpiece.

  1. Thank you Jay! Great content! How is your baby girl? How are you guys adjusting to parenthood? I laughed when I heard you say (in a different video) that your days are turned into nights, and nights into days…Yep, been there. It gets better with time. Best wishes always.
