Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #239 – March 30, 2019

Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

Fisher’s Shop

If you’re like me, at some point you have ended up with a “battery droor” where all of the different types of batteries you need end up strewn about requiring a mad dash of quick sorting, inevitably finding out you need to run to the store to buy some more 9Vs. This great idea from Fisher’s Shop makes battery storage not only a breeze but a nice, functional piece to bring organization and open up the battery drawer for other purposes: like more tool storage.

Advoko MAKES

I’m not sure when industrial plastic wrap and scotch tape became part of the minimalist survival kit, but if you ever find yourself out in the wilderness and happened to bring along the trusty plastic wrap and scotch tape, you might give this kayak build a try.

Burls Art

“The world’s lightest guitar”… Okay, full disclosure, at this time, the claim is unconfirmed, but the concept is really interesting. Burls Art crafts an entire guitar body out of styrofoam in this video, and it works!!! He demonstrates the finished project at the end of the video as well.

Jonas Olsen Woodcraft

Power Carving is definitely a niche that can be fun to delve into, especially when you’re working on a nice display like this one from Jonas Olsen. His dragon skeleton carve shows off some great dremel work to put together a cool piece of artwork.

Timber Ridge Gifts

If you ever find yourself in need of a silicone mold and don’t have time to wait for a specific mold to be shipped from your favorite online distributor, you might give this DIY silicone mold a try. It’s easily made from common items you likely have, or should have, around the house. I wonder if, and how many times, this could be used to cast your own pen blanks from resin?

Alec Steele

Join Alec Steel in forging this heavy duty hog splitter. The montage of demonstration cuts at the end looks might be a good way to alleviate stress as well.

The shield is often times overlooked when you think of warriors going to battle. However, the shield, throughout history was an integral part of a warrior’s gear This Sekiro Wrist Mounted Fold out shield not only looks cool, but could also come in handy if you find yourself in hand to hand combat during the zombie apocalypse.

NileRed

This video is a little longer, but it showcases a new use for the pink stomach medicine that probably sits in your cabinet though it expired months ago. I personally would not have thought to use this stuff for this application, but the finished project will be worth the watch.

Wood bikes are always interesting but this chopper bike is particularly interesting to me. Because the bike is so stretched out I would have expected a bit more sag or flex in the wood in the middle of the bike or especially where the handle bars attach. Beautiful design as well.
