Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #251 – July 27, 2019

Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

Bevelish Creations

This is a great jig that we can all benefit from. A multipurpose tenon jig. Great design!

Another one from the same creator. I like the non-traditional form of this build. Often times we, myself included, get stuck into a rectangle mindset with woodworking.

Ashley Harwood

What a great video. Well recorded, narrated, and produced. A tremendous amount of work went into this two-year project and a tremendous amount of work went into this presentation. The router jig around the 20 minute mark is very interesting.

Whiteside Machine Company

If you’re into woodworking you might have used Whiteside router bits already. The company dates back to 1970 where Bill Whiteside started a general purpose machine shop in the basement of his home. Now they are one of the largest producers of quality router bits. I’m not sure of the original publish date for this video but it’s a great look into their company.

Bellevue Woodshop

A tour of a homemade table saw. This gives new meaning to “why buy it when you can make it!”

Jonathan Katz-Moses

Shopping for new tools? Watch this video first. Lots of good information in this one. Also, if you click through to the video on YouTube there are a lot of good suggestions in the comments.

Motherboard

Not woodworking at all but an interesting look into the complicated integration of technology and farming. Did you know there was this much technology in crops?

Gajamohan Mohanarajah

Another video that isn’t woodworking but is incredibly fascinating. A ridiculously crazy cube that has more agility than you and I.

  1. Is it just me and my computer or does the videos jump around and are not coordinated with the audio?

  2. Especially liked the one about “right to repair”. So relevant today! Thanks Jay.

  3. In your shop did you do any research into the lighting or did you just get what ever your electrician recommend? I’m asking because I see in your shop those 8’ fluorescent light bulbs and they cost a lot more then a 4’ one. Also have you thought about LED fluorescent lights and you can also get motion detector lights do you never ha e to run them off.
