Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #261 – November 2, 2019

Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

my mechanics

Make sure you get a cup of coffee before this restoration. Who wouldn’t love to have this gem on their counter? I can smell the roast already..

Mosca Woodworking

Kumiko is fascinating but it sure looks tedious and time consuming. It’s a great example of a bunch of simple processes repeated to yield a great result.

Have you ever thought about making a miter saw? Me neither. But this build was interesting and well executed.

Here’s part 2:

Landesschau Rheinland-Pfalz – SWR

This one is in German. I don’t speak German so I have no idea what was ever said. But while watching veneer masters work you can learn a tremendous amount by what they do. So many tips and tricks in this one. Just pay attention and soak up the process. Even the simple stuff like the process of using tape efficiently starting around 6:20.

lignum

Such a beautiful interior roof design. And while I hate dust flying in my shop I love seeing work getting done and dust flying in production shops. LOTS of work went into this roof structure.

David Zimmermann Jr.

Here’s a look at a very interesting toolbox. Lots of purpose built spaces and very well organized. Maybe you can get an idea or two from it.

Bent’s Woodworking

Jason recently built an adult size nesting chair using my templates. While it’s a perfect lawn chair for camping or whatever, Jason shows that it’s also a great shop chair for relaxing at the end of the day.

Jonathan Katz-Moses

Another beautiful nesting chair in the books :) This time a children’s size. As it turns out, white oak and walnut is a killer combo!

  1. That wood Magazine shop is cool, but that photo is COMPLETELY misleading. (not your fault, it’s the fault of the magazine). Look at the photo. Look at the floorplan. Those two things do not match.

Thanks for the interesting things, Jay!

    • Yeah, it sure does match. The layout drawing shows only the door leading to the entertainment area. Either way, this shop seems more like a showcase than a workplace. Very nice~!

  2. So cool Jay that you postet a video from the “Handwerkskunst” series. I love it and allways enjoy the 45 minutes long episodes.

    Regards

  3. That toolbox is cool. I don’t know if its the same one or not, but Matthias Wandel showed a similar video and then did an analysis of the geometry of the way it opened. I’ve always wanted to build one like that.

  4. The coffee grinder restoration video is amazing! That guy has mad skills. I watched every second of it. The German intarsia video is equally fascinating. You’re right Jay, you don’t need to know what the man’s saying. Great finds.
