Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #270 – February 29, 2020

Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

Craig Thibodeau

What an incredible piece. It takes a tremendous amount of work to complete a woodworking project at this level of craftsmanship, and that’s completely before making it a puzzle cabinet. The inlay work is gorgeous, the details everywhere are on point, and the puzzle integration is just icing on the cake. I love everything about this.

Another from Craig..

Roger Bansemer

They sure don’t make them like they used to. I wonder how many hours went into making this one…and how many of you reading this have the patience to make something like this? I sure do not! But I can admire all the effort.

Brian’s projects are always top notch. Lots of good techniques to learn in this video.

Don’t have a CNC but still want to make a GREAT address sign? It’s not as difficult as it may appear.

Advoko MAKES

My brother and I used to build forts in the woods behind our house growing up. Never did we get this involved though. I really like his plastic wrap kayak as well.

Automate your dust collector via the blast gates! I’ve already purchased the items to get this done in my shop. I really like the idea of using the blast gate as a switch rather than a remote. That way I can still control the dust collector without having the remote handy. If I’m using the blast gates anyway why not use them as switches too? Yes, you can get automated blast gates that open and control the dust collector when machines turn on but I like this approach better as I can leave the collector going between cuts or when I’m trying to clean up and clear the air.

Heat exchanger pipes going through the combustion chamber. Brilliant. I bet this puts out a LOT of heat and can also go through a LOT of wood…

  1. Ideas extremadamente interesantes y trabajos artesanales de primer nivel.
    Muchísimas gracias por compartirlo, Jay.
Le sigo desde hace años y he aprendido mucho, por ello, enhorabuena y mil gracias por sus esfuerzos.

  2. Great furniture from Craig Thibodeau. I can’t help but think I would probably put the wrong “key” in the wrong box thereby being locked out forever.

  3. JAy, loved the Roger Bansemer video on the Napoleon desk! Its amazing to think of the planing that wen into that and no computer CAD to assist! Now that is great woodworking!

  4. I don’t know why anyone would build a relay for a dust collection system. You can buy them premade for a lot less hassle than sourcing all the stuff in that video. Ivac makes a number of them for a decent price.

  5. The dust collector relay could be on 3way switches. That way you could turn the dc on or off from any location you had a switch.
If I were doing this in my shop I would use a hoffman box, 30amp 2pole definite purpose contactor w/24v coil, 24v power supply and use 3way switching.

In reality I just use a wireless fob and keep it in my pocket.
