Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #271 – April 11, 2020

Occasionally I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

What is “digital joinery”? Despite what many believe, it is easy to get accurate woodworking into the thousandths (0.001″ / 0.025mm) range with normal machine tools. Add in the precision and repeatability of CNC machines, Aaron decided to spend part of his sabbatical to contribute to digital furniture manufacturing.

A large obstacle in dust collection is locating the blast gates in a convenient location. I used a magnet on a stick to open the gate for my CNC but not every solution need to be so crude. Cosmas has engineered a perfect solution for remote control of his blast gate without the need for any electronics or pneumatics.

Typically those who post something with “Ultimate” in the title leave something out. Matt’s fence is without a doubt an exception to that rule. This fence is completely reverseable, has tool storage, is a tapering/tenon/spline/featherboard jig.

  1. I’ve been following Liziqi for quite some time. She’s an amazingly talented and resourceful woman demonstrating talents that sadly have been lost to our culture.
Thank you for bringing her to the attention of a whole new audience.

    • I’ve been doing the same. I love her videos, but the suspicious part of me wonders how much of it is state sponsored propaganda. The quality of her camera equipment, time required for the shoots, wide knowledge, etc. Even still, I continue to watch and enjoy her and just let the suspicious part of me shut the hell up. :)

      • Robert, I too suppress my skepticism, but would not put it past the Chinese regime to push the propaganda: “Chinese peasants are free to build an idyllic life in the countryside if they are willing to work for it. Chinese assembly line workers are not slaves. Lizi Qi tried city life and then chose to return to the country. Like her, the workers in Shenzhen factories could leave the cities and return to the bosom of their ancestors, they simply CHOOSE not to.” American capitalists said the same of the Lowell Girls.

Yet I don’t think she’s impossible. There are makers all around the world who, through drive, and determination have developed their talents and followers. Examples which come immediately to mind include Cristiana Felgueiras, April Wilkerson, David Piccuito, Laura Kampf, and for that matter, the host of this website who started his career path in a clapped out single wide.

        • Yeah, agreed. Another good example (and fits with her channel) is Grandpa Amu. If you haven’t seen any of this stuff, he’s worth checking out.
