Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #273 – June 6, 2020

Occasionally I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

Klavieratelier

An assembly, cutting, routing station. This one isn’t in English but you don’t have to speak the language to understand the engineering. It’s a 4 part series so click through if you want to see the rest. An assembly, cutting, routing station.

Alain Vaillancourt

With track saws being more common place these days here’s a great shop made jig for keeping a track at a certain distance away from an edge.

Robin Lewis Makes

The main thing that I love about this table is the contrasting symmetry of the design. The main center field has contrasting sides. That theme is continued through the alternating strips of steam bent wood. The table is an art piece and a functional item. I also like his use of common tools for the base construction.

Winston Moy

This is the first video that has made me take a hard look at 3d printers. Winston’s videos are always top notch and packed with a ton of information. I really like his presentation and education style.

Just Do It

I like the creativity here. The end result is a nice, clean looking and functional light. Lots of nice techniques like using guide blocks to help route cable management grooves and the method for darkening the hardware.

Fleets Wood Shop

This has got to be the most ridiculous (in a good way) shop I have ever seen. Who want’s to spend some time in this space? Incredible..

    • I couldn’t finish the video. My dad would have said this guy has more money than sense.

Not for me either, thank you.

      • Same here. I am distracted by that shop the same way i have been by the introduction of the Tesla Cybertruck.
        Thanks for sharing though, Jay!

  1. Thanks for your newsletter! I ALWAYS find something in it that benefits me. I’m disabled now so I don’t get to act on many things that you share with me now, but I have a “Jay Bates Newsletter” folder that’s getting full.

I am just starting to learn Sketchup & I saw one of your tutorials on it, loved it! Where & how do I find the first one?

  2. I want to know how many years it took to organize that shop. Its not something a guy does on a weekend then cracks a beer to admire his new work. The heavy duty draw slides and having tools mounted on trays that pull away from the wall is bloody brilliant. My have to give that a go with my grinder, buffer, and sanders.

  3. Jay,

Thanks for sharing these sites. I was familiar with many of them, and I agree with your assessments. I like the notion of using a melamine surface for an assembly table and wondering if you have any thoughts or comments on that?

    Thoughts?
