Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #201 – February 3, 2018

Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

Plane Collector

If you’re looking to restore an old hand plane or tool of any kind you should definitely subscribe to this channel. I’ve often wondered about how true the statement is that you need to have the frog and blade inserted when lapping the bottom of a plane…

William Ng

You can tell this guy teaches for a living. The way he explains things is great. I have no need to sharpen jointer or planer knives but I really enjoyed his thought process.

ShopBuilt

I’ve never been a huge fan of t-track for the reasons he mentions. The new fence clamping design is a great improvement from the more common design you typically see.

Justin Depew

Want to improve the dust collection on your table saw? Have you thought about making your own over arm dust collection hood? I like how he tells what he would do differently if he did it over again after the build.

FloweringElbow

I found this device to be pretty interesting. A good use of energy as well. The heat from the stove powers the fan to circulate heat from the stove. Brilliant.

Doucette and Wolfe Furniture Makers

An oldie but a goodie. Everyone needs a dose of Doucette and Wolfe inspiration occasionally. Here is the process of making a chair that is relatively simple in overall design yet has plenty of little subtleties that draw the eye’s attention. True craftsmanship.

hffcom

The videos on this channel are all sped up to show the entire process of the build. I find them interesting not necessarily because I want to build the project he’s working on but it’s a great glimpse into a one man production shop. I often pick up little things here and there in regards to a certain technique or setup that makes batching out parts more efficient.

Omeleto

This has nothing to do with woodworking but it’s a fantastic reminder of the struggle creators have working with clients sometimes. I couldn’t help but smile through the entire video.
