Interesting Stuff From Around The Web #285 – August 27, 2022

Occasionally I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links throughout the week when you find something really interesting.

Woodworking Craftsman

Lots of freehand routing and shaping in this one. Sometimes I think we get so caught up in precision and making lines, angles, and cuts perfect that we forget to just DO.

For most people, woodworking is a solitary activity. It’s fun to get a glimpse into a group of people problem-solving on a project. There’s a lot going on in this build. Throw in the uniqueness and incredible capability of the machine, and you’ve got a video I can’t turn away from.

Scott Walsh

A very well-done workbench with storage. He makes a great argument for pre-finishing as well. Are you a pre-finish fan, or do you prefer to do it all at once after the project is built? Beautiful grain on this ash bench!

I’ve Been Thinking Workshop

An interesting take on the basic crosscut sled for a table saw. After holes for weight reduction, the top and bottom laminate is added. It’s almost like turning the structure into a mini torsion box. I like it.

ISHITANI FURNITURE

Ishitani’s videos are so peaceful. These are the videos that are good for sipping your morning coffee. A great way to start the day inspired. Even with a basic frame project like this, it’s fun to tag along and watch the process. Interesting tools as well.

Here’s a thought-provoking discussion. The real reason Americans aren’t returning to work. What say ye? In the current world of common opportunities for entrepreneurship, never undervalue yourself. Control your destiny.

  1. I came across the “Crosscut sled like no other” video several years ago and decided to build it. I did however add a little weight to it with a T=track and stop block on the handle. It’s still my favorite sled for larger cross cuts and gets regular use to this day.
