Every week I like to share a few things I find interesting. Mostly video content with an occasional website article. All of the content you will find in these posts is free to you. Remember that liking, subscribing, or sharing free content goes a long way in helping produce more free content. If you like that creator’s work, share it! Also, thank you to those who send me links through the week when you find something really interesting.

A good sharpening system is a crucial tool in the woodworker’s tool chest. Though getting started you can use sandpaper and a myriad of different sharpening stones, eventually you will want to upgrade your system. If you haven’t considered a Japanese set up, this video from Jonathan Katz-Moses shows you how to set up the station and explains some benefits for this eastern style system.

HandCraft
There are many different options when it comes to sanding, but when it comes to sanding curved surfaces the power options can get a little pricey. If you aren’t ready to pull the trigger on a belt sander or spindle sander just yet, this drill powered sanding jig can get the job done. It’s technically a homemade version of an inexpensive flap sander but this same idea can be applied to a larger model for use in a bench grinder setup.

Wood By Wright 2
The pool cue… We have seen them turned on a lathe, but James Wright demonstrates in this video how to make one using only hand tools. There are still some cues made in this traditional style today, but they are becoming more rare to find. Take a step back in time with this video and learn the traditional method for making pool cues, and maybe give it a shot yourself. Then, you can be all the talk at the APA League next week. .

Outstanding picks. If you know where the plans for an edge sander, please post, I would like one, about 42 inches long. If you find an edge sander smaller inform me if the plan can be used to make it longer. I did find one, but I lost the site.
Thank you
Ted
Woodsmith did an edge sander that attaches to a drill press and uses a standard 4″ X 36″ sanding belt. I know this isn’t as long as what you want, but it may give you some ideas. The plan is $12.95 and is at: https://www.woodsmithplans.com/plan/drill-press-edge-sander/
There are several YouTube video on homemade edge sanders, search edge sander.
Here’s one from Woodsmith: https://www.woodsmithplans.com/plan/shop-built-edge-sander/
Mattias Wandel did a good one @woodgears.ca
