Day 255 – Temporary Lighting and Movie Theater

Remember this past summer when it was super dry and dusty and we couldn’t hardly breathe because it was so dry and dusty? Yeah, winters are always the exact opposite for us: wet, wet, wet. Times like these make the simple wins, like temporary lighting, excellent. My full light kit for the shop should arrive today (January 2nd). In the meantime, these two light strips helped tremendously.

Let’s go back in time for a moment. Imagine all of those cool and super interesting play areas you enjoyed. For me, I remember taking over the open attic space in my dad’s 2 car garage. I put a radio, Christmas lights, posters, and a couple of folding chairs. It was hot as you know what in the summertime, but it was our fort, and it was awesome! Why was it awesome? Because it was different. It was unusual. Fast forward to the present day, where I’m trying to set up something similar for Tyler Kay and her cousin, who regularly visits. We set up her play tent and a projector for a movie theater experience. Plenty of room to dance and get the wiggles out before a much-needed night of rest in her own tent. Being a kid is great! I hope I never grow up :)

  1. Better light that i’d thought.
You may cover it in another vid but, what did you use to paint the floor? Looks white? I had to settle for tan or gray when I did my shop/garage. Looks nice!

    • We do not have a coating on the floor. The concrete crew smoothed it with a whirlybird, and we did nothing but sweep and mop it. It’s a very light gray color, naturally. We wanted to seal it with some kind of sealer but ran out of warm enough weather before moving in. I’m glad we didn’t, though. I’m very pleased with the floor as-is so adding a coating would just be a wasted expense in my eye. If I change the oil in my truck and it stains the floor, oh well. The floor will still work just the same.
