A few more logs completed the evolution into lumber. I’m still working through some bottlenecks, primarily the weather. The rain is, of course, the biggest enemy of progress at the moment. And now the sun is coming into play. It’s time to move the sawmill under the shop lean-to.
In the meantime, I have a decent pile of 2x4s milled. They are 10′ long and I currently only have 8′ pallets. I’ll use a bunch of these to make 10′ pallets. Because my logs are 8′, 10′, and 12′ I need to have a few pallets of each on hand. Onward!

The waster outlet on the sawmill seems a poor design – just dumps sawdust into your boots.
Dumb in the sense that it’s not fancy. Dust discharge is in that location on all mills, just due to the way the blade spins. I don’t have to stay on that side to operate it though. I can push it from the other side, but the crank is stuck on that side. Sawdust on the feet isn’t a big deal. I used the mill today with regular shoes and dust never got into my socks or shoes.
What are you going to use the lumber for? Just curious.
Anything and everything. Chicken coop(s), animal pens, fencing, shade structures, benches, barn, equipment shed, house…
