Well, our apartment isn’t up to code, apparently. Luckily, we’re not subject to code. In real time, we weathered the ice storm, and I’ve been glued to the computer since power came back on. Tomorrow is Part 5 of the apartment series and Friday is an 86 minute Ice Storm video. Onward!
P.S.
Up to the sky, down to the ground
Fun for me and you
In past and present tense too
What am I?
(no cheating)

Building codes are a Minimum standard. Y’all are doing great. Keep up the good work.
Jay, with regard to the shutoff valve, just treat that space as you would an inset for a washing machine. Hot & cold pipes and a drain. Take some plywood and build a form to fit into that recess to close it in a bit and then spray insulation around it. That should give you what you need and can work with. Just thinking . . .
I don’t mind learning from you “experimenting”. You might feel as though you are putting yourself out there with supposed mistakes. But we all make mistakes and it is good to watch you #1 admit to them, but more importantly #2 fixing them.
I like it when individuals get together and share views.
Great site, keep it up!
