SketchUp: Sofa Table Bench

In this video I show how the design evolution of a quick sofa table bench. This bench will be used inside for quick laptop use at a sofa table I made a couple years ago. It’s also a design experiment rather than simply making the bench look identical to the table.

  1. The old carpenters motto, ‘measure twice, cut once’. SketchUp is more ‘measure 1000 times, cut once’, (in theory, oops)

  2. It was great to see you modify the design…. I like how you think through the process.

I am now interested in what you take with you to the shop to do the build.

  3. HI Jay, you’re right, this “fast” method is pretty effective. have you used the site to make a cutlist? I really like it.

  4. Nice video, very instructive.

I think I might have used dowels instead of screws to preserve the clean look of the top; or perhaps screws from the underside.

  5. Great video instruction, Jay~! If SketchUp videos were the only thing that you put out, then I’d be there for every one. I always learn something from your demos. You are the Yoda of SU~!
